What Dental Professionals Do

Dental professionals are health practitioners

They are usually divided into two broad groups: dental specialists and general dentists. Generally, all dental specialists perform the same functions; however, a dentist specializing in treating children, an orthodontist who specialize in curing TMJ, and a podiatrist who is also a specialist in treating conditions of the jaw, face, and head are examples of dental professionals who perform very different tasks. Most general dentists offer routine dental services such as tooth extractions, tooth cleaning, and extractions.

Many dental professionals work in combination with other health practitioners. For example, a podiatrist works along with a pediatrician to treat conditions that affect the mouth and teeth of young children. A dentist may use an anesthetic while performing certain treatments, such as in cases of emergency or painless tooth extraction. A podiatrist treats conditions such as TMJ and fractures of the jaw and general orthodontics which are performed in children’s mouths.

dental professionals who perform different types of treatments in the oral cavity

There are also different types of dental professionals who perform different types of treatments in the oral cavity. First are endodontists, who are also known as periodontists. Endodontists diagnose, treat, and prevent dental decay and oral surgery by preventing infections in the mouth and repairing damage that has already occurred. They make sure that there is no remaining buildup of bacteria, fix dental decays, remove plaque from the teeth and gums, and instruct patients on how to take care of their mouth and teeth after treatments. Second are orthodontists, who are trained to handle cases of misalignment of the teeth and jawbone and also treat conditions of the jaw, face, and head. An orthodontist can treat problems with the jaw, face, ears, and teeth.

The third set of dental professionals that make up a dental team are the prosthodontist and periodontist. A prosthodontist is a specialist who makes adjustments and repairs of maxillofacial bones and tendons for people who have been missing these parts. Periodontists are highly educated professionals who diagnose, treat, and prevent gum disease, diseases of the bone surrounding teeth, and disorders of the tissues that support and hold the teeth. They treat gum diseases, periodontal diseases, malocclusion, and deformities. Lastly, these specialists are involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of dental problems that affect the mouth, jaw, and other body parts.

Pediatric dentists can choose to be specialized in pediatrics for children

The field of pediatrics covers a broad range of specialties that are concerned with children’s oral health. There are pediatric dentists who treat and diagnose gum diseases, pediatric dental assistants who help children maintain healthy gums, pediatric dentists who help children find the right dentist, and dental professionals who counsel parents and children on proper dental hygiene and oral health care. Some of these pediatric dentists specialize in treating infants and toddlers, while others are dedicated to treating adults. Pediatric dentists can choose to be specialized in pediatrics, however. An example of a pediatric specialist practicing in a particular subspecialty of pediatrics is Michael Korshon, a specialist who is trained in pediatric orthodontics. He is a board certified specialist in orthodontic surgery and he practices in Milwaukee.

As you can see, there are many different dental professionals from whom you can choose to provide your patients with cosmetic dentistry. In addition to the three mentioned dental professionals listed above, there are numerous other specialists in the field of dentistry. Some of these dental professionals provide restorative dentistry services to patients who have suffered trauma or disease that has affected their teeth. Other dental professionals work with teeth and their general health, while others are devoted to providing a comprehensive range of cosmetic services.
